…and thanks to RLS for hosting the album. Here’s a little back story on the tracks:
GRATITUDE
Allow me to begin with an overture of thanks. Changing my attitude, I got a new sound. Special sampled guest star at the end is Rev. Nancy Wilson from North Carolina who I feel sums up what this collection is all about.
OVERDOIN’ IT
This one’s a collaboration between myself and Berlin music trio [sic], who are none other than Alessandro Tartari, Jules Etienne and Massimiliano Pagliara. The former two you’ll recognize from my group The Snackettes, the latter is a cosmic disco DJ and producer. Together we made this little ditty about taking it down a notch with all the rah-rah and just letting it go on…and on…
TAKE CARE OF ME
Title says it all. Who doesn’t love to be looked after? I suppose the challenge is letting that into your life. The deep background vocals come from the lovely and talented Björn Trenker, also known as my main squeeze.
GIRL
I was delighted to be asked to participate in my friend David Barrett’s project, The Complete Beatles On Ukulele….which is just that; every Beatle song covered with a guest vocalist, and David and several musicians producing, and the Ukulele featuring prominently on every track. Curious?..discover more here. Being a Lennon champion, I chose this song. Meloncholy perhaps but you can’t have light without dark.
LOST
On that note, I turn it over now to my dirty doppelganger, Mr. Tony Amherst. This elusive, somewhat disturbed musical idiot savant has been following me around as long as I can remember. He finally convinced me to release his sprawling 23 track instrumental opus, Rush, on my label, Random Records. See, hear and discover all about Tony here.
THIRD TIME’S A CHARM
This came out already on my last album, Special Guest star, but it’s relevant here because of the themes….hope, angels, and gleeful submission.
NO DANCING (NAKED)
Here’s an old chestnut. This one has always been a staple of my live sets, but here is a special instrumental version released only on my very first Snax EP on Freu_nd Records in 2002. Written in bed in New York City on my 303 Groovebox…so there.
SELF
Dreams, meditation and pianos all had a hand in producing this track. One can’t run from one’s self…and who could be bothered anyway?
GOOD LIFE
Back in February 2007, I performed live at the legendary Munich nightclub with the flashing disco floor, Erste Liga. Also on the set that night was Princess Superstar. She gives the shout out at the end. I closed my gig with this interpretation of the house classic by Inner City and results can only be described as ecstatic.
Enjoy…and all the best for 2012!
Love,
SNAX
YESS!
